Anne Sanford from LURK

October 11th, 2014

Perfumer Anne Sanford is the creative talent behind LURK perfume. A collection of all natural essential oils hand blended by Anne herself and created in small batches in her Sag Harbor studio.

When I got the call from Anne to be part of her LURK bricks and mortar concept store in Sag Harbor, I could not resist. California Tailor’s Shirt No.1 is part of Anne’s hand-curated concept store which focusses on beautiful American made products together with Anne’s own LURK perfumes.

Anne is a great friend of California Tailor and has been a huge support in my first year. I thought it would be great for everyone to get to know her a little better.

Mara from M LOVES M

July 19th, 2014

I was very excited to see Mara, author of the beautiful blog, M Loves M, wearing the Wave Street Stripe, Shirt No.1 on her blog this week.  I’m a big fan of M Loves M.  I love Mara’s classic, California style.  Always so effortless.  I was lucky enough to grab a few minutes with Mara and ask her a few questions…so we can get to know her a little better.

Women who inspire

March 14th, 2014

Impossible to ignore, these are the women who have inspired us through the decades.  From classic Audrey, the free spirited Françoise Hardy, to the new girl on the block, Cara Delevingne.  I always keep coming back to these familiar faces.  Authentic, effortless and all a little bit tomboy.  They all have helped shape California Tailor and continue to inspire us all.  Who inspires you?

Audrey Hepburn

September 28th, 2013

It was Breakfast at Tiffany’s and that famous little black dress that made Audrey Hepburn a star of Hollywood’s golden age. However at California Tailor, I love this more effortless shot of Audrey wearing a classic white shirt.  The photo was taken by Hollywood photographer Mark Shaw as part of a portrait series for Life magazine during the 1950’s.

Natural and effortless, this is my favorite Audrey snap.

Charlotte Rampling

August 2nd, 2013

Sixties It-girl and style icon Charlotte Rampling began her career as a model being photographed by everyone from  David Bailey to Helmut Newton.  The British born actress moved into film and became famous in both English and French cinema.  Often referred to as one of the finest actresses of the last four decades, she is a timeless icon and a true inspiration for the California Tailor journey.  Known as the Chelsea girl in the sixties, her boyish energy and British sensibility  have taken her from humble London roots all the way to Hollywood.

  Classic, elegant and effortlessly cool.

Françoise Hardy

July 5th, 2013

The unforgettable cool girl of the mid sixties, Françoise Hardy was a natural beauty.  The fashionable iconic Parisian singer-songwriter went to the fashionable clubs in London, bumping into the likes of The Beatles and the Rolling stones.  Her beauty and laid back style was a true inspiration in her classic, tailored basics.  Rei Kawakubo is said to have been so inspired by Hardy’s song “Tous les garçons et les filles,” that it influenced the name of her line, Comme des Garçons.  A real femme fatal of her time, she was effortlessly chic, a true tomboy!

I just love her classic girl next door style.
