Revisiting old-school fashion design: pencil and paper.

From the studio

November 17th, 2013

California Tailor is nearly ready!  As we prepare to launch I thought it was time to bring you a few photo’s from my Los Angeles studio.  This is where California Tailor has been taking shape.  From a small idea to create the perfect fitting classic woven shirt… to my soon to be released Shirt No 1 collection.

I’m so excited to start sharing all things California Tailor.  So stop back soon and follow our story…

Fashion illustration is a core skill for a designer but it’s been a while since I’ve picked up a pencil and sketched anything – possibly more than a decade.  I have always loved sketching and have explored many different techniques of fashion illustration during my time at art college and fashion degree course back in England.  Fashion illustration was an integral part of my studies but design software such as illustrator and photoshop are now so powerful now that sketching is almost a hobby than a need.  I’m on a mission to be creative with my trusty 2B pencil in hand instead of a mouse!  Already I’m enjoying being able to sit outside and sketch instead of being holed up inside over a laptop.

Let’s see what happens…

Take a look at more sketches on the California Tailor Pinterest page.
