It’s been raining all week here in (not so sunny) Los Angeles. To cheer myself up, I’ve put together a spring whites mood board to get me into the springtime spirit. So whether I’m throwing on my favorite Lily White Shirt No.1 and heading to the beach, or grabbing my most cherished white sneakers to wear around town, I keep reminding myself…Spring is just around the corner…and I can’t wait!
The New Year always gives me inspiration to go out and discover new things. My love for new music has led me to discover the London based singer songwriter, Banks. The first time I heard her on the radio, I had to know who that was singing down the airwaves. The Los Angeles born London based artist has been gaining fans across the globe with her intimate soul sound. But incredibly she has only been performing for one year. A chance gift of a toy keyboard given to her by a friend coupled with a life long love of songwriters like Tracy Chapman and Lauryn Hill has helped her to produce the soulful and honest ” This is what it feels like” and “Warm Water”. Banks is a clear California Tailor favorite the perfect addition to your New Year playlist.

Our journey begins in London, England. Inspired by the traditions of tailoring, a love for all things classic and a British sense of humor, we travelled west to California. Our London look married perfectly with the casual laid back lifestyle of California’s endless summer and so our California love affair began. California Tailor will launch in the Spring with our first collection “Shirt No. 1”. Our take on the perfect button down shirt.

These are French artist André Saraiva’s fantasy performance pairings otherwise know as “Dream Concerts.” The too good to be true line up’s are André Saraiva’s latest project currently on view at The Museum of Contemporary Art, in Los Angeles.

Today I’m celebrating the British artist David Hockney and one of my favorite paintings, A Bigger Splash. David Hockney has had a long time love affair with Hollywood and California. He famously said his childhood passion for the movies made him feel like he was raised in both England and Hollywood. He was drawn to the light and heat of California and finally moved from London to Los Angeles after attending the Royal Collage of Art in London during the early sixties.
The swimming pools of Los Angeles were his favorite subject. Iconic works such as A Bigger Splash saw him explore new ways of painting and cemented his reputation as an international artist. With A Bigger Splash, David Hockney depicts a typical California day. Warm and sunny, blue skies above with the iconic palm trees in the distance. A true celebration of California life seen through the artistic eye of one of England’s greatest living painters.
A Bigger Splash, 1967 is currently on display at London’s Tate Britain Gallery.
