The Beach Ready Woven

July 26th, 2014

I’m loving this 1992, Peter Lindbergh photo from the Vogue archives proving that when heading to the beach this summer, all you need is a classic white button down.  Always effortless, it’s the perfect cover up for your next beach ready adventure.

Chvrches

March 21st, 2014

It takes just a moment to fall in love with the immaculate sounds of Chvrches.  Fronted by the gorgeous and inspiring Lauren Mayberry, the electronic three piece are setting the world alight with their thought provoking pop music.  Their beautifully crafted debut album “The Bones Of What You Believe” is sure to be my album of the year. (and on constant rotation in the California Tailor studio) From the wonderful “The Mother We Share” all the way to “Lies” and “Recover,” Lauren’s perfect vocals have me simply in love with Chvrches.

Fashion Illustration Gallery

February 10th, 2014

I’m a huge fan of illustration, so when I discovered the Fashion Illustration Gallery on a recent trip to London you can imagine how overjoyed I was.  The London based gallery represents some of the worlds most accomplished illustrators who produce the most inspiring sketches, paintings and drawings.  Every artist is truly unique, and their pieces are works of art in their own right.

Bold, bright and beautiful…to see more, take a look at the Fashion Illustration Gallery online or visit the gallery on London’s famous Cork Street.

Banks

January 11th, 2014

The New Year always gives me inspiration to go out and discover new things.  My love for new music has led me to discover the London based singer songwriter, Banks.  The first time I heard her on the radio, I had to know who that was singing down the airwaves.  The Los Angeles born London based artist has been gaining fans across the globe with her intimate soul sound.  But incredibly she has only been performing for one year.  A chance gift of a toy keyboard given to her by a friend coupled with a life long love of songwriters like Tracy Chapman and Lauryn Hill has helped her to produce the soulful and honest ” This is what it feels like” and “Warm Water”.  Banks is a clear California Tailor favorite the perfect addition to your New Year playlist.

Avedon at the Gagosian Gallery

December 7th, 2013

I was lucky enough to see the new Richard Avedon exhibition at the Gagosian Gallery earlier this month. I have been a huge fan of Avedon’s work since my day’s at art school, so when I heard that the Beverly Hills based gallery was hosting a retrospective of the iconic photographers work, I had to go and see it.

The exhibition focus’s on his distinct imagery of women, both famous and more anonymous.  As always, capturing his subjects against a stark white backdrop making his images more intimate, emotional and iconic.  With a great mix of larger exhibition prints from the 70’s and collections of the contact prints from his time as a fashion photographer in the 50’s and 60’s.  It’s a must see exhibition if you are in town.

London Grammar

September 7th, 2013

I can’t wait for London Grammar’s up coming US tour this September. The London trio have been quietly winning me over with their powerful and soaring pop songs since I first heard their debut Metal & Dust EP earlier this year.  Their recent cover of Chris Isaak’s Wicked Game together with the immaculate singles Strong and Hey Now have them being hailed as one of the most promising new bands of the year and a clear favorite of California Tailor.  Perfect to listen to on a lazy California afternoon.
